At a recent meeting with industry, new Forestry Minister Stuart Nash floated the return of the 'Forest Service' label for his Ministry. The 'Forest Service' was originally established in 1919. It was responsible for the management of New Zealand's state-owned forests, including forestry, conservation and recreational functions. Although highly regarded the Service was abolished in 1987 as state-owned forests were sold. With the return of a well loved name, it will be interesting to see what else the new Minister has planned.
